About Me
Hi! My name is Maureen and I'm from Burlington, VT. I'm a Biochemistry major, I'm in SERVE, and I love being a Hokie! My Top 5 Strengths are Learner, Achiever, Developer, Input, and Empathy. I mainly joined SERVE because I used to work at a nursing home and loved taking care of the older gentleman I worked for. I figured SERVE would be a way to not only continue serving others, but also branch out and find other kinds of service I enjoy. I was part of many service events throughout my church and school. Through my school I was involved in and did service events with Student Government (I was Speaker of the House), Athletic Leadership Council, Red Cross Club, and my cheerleading team. My high school was very community-oriented, so almost every event involved the larger community, not just our school. I've done food drives, blood drives, teacher appreciation, raking leaves/yard work, staffing clinics and summer camps, and working at an animal shelter. I was always interested in the different kinds of services going on across my organziations, and it always amazed me how privileged our area was when I learned about the things that people in and out of our community needed. The unapparent needs of others and knowing I had the ability to help serve them was another driving factor in my decision to apply to SERVE.
